The Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910)
The Joseon Dynasty ruled Korea for more than five centuries, from the conquest of the Goryeo Kingdom in 1392 through the annexation of Korea by expansionist Japan in 1910. During that time, the Joseon rulers overcame a number of invasions by the neighboring Chinese and Japanese; these frequent incursions led to a isolationist policy, causing Korea to be dubbed "The Hermit Kingdom."
