Independent India and Pakistan

1942 - 1974 CE

India gained independence from the British in 1947, but ended up partitioned along religious lines. The mainly-Muslim north became Pakistan, while the predominantly Hindu south became the Republic of India. These two neighbors have had a very uneasy relationship ever since.

1974 - First Successful Indian Nuclear Weapons Test
