Vizier: A Muslim high official, particularly from the Ottoman Empire.

Viziers served as the high state ministers to sultans or as governors of provinces. The highest, similar to a Prime Minister or Secretary of State, was called a "grand vizier."

The word "vizier" comes from the Turkish vezir, derived from the Arabic wazir.
