Who are the Khmer?

Definition:

Khmer: a member of the majority ethnic group of Cambodia. The term may also be used to describe the language spoken in Cambodia, or the Khmer Empire.

The Khmer Empire (802-1431 A.D.) ruled most of Southeast Asia between the 9th and 12th centuries A.D., and created incredible monuments such as the temple complex at Angkor Wat.

Pronunciation: "kmehr" or "kuh-MEHR"
Examples:

"The Khmer-era temple at Preah Vihear is a source of contention between Cambodia and Thailand."
