
To me, nothing brings home an historic event or era like a painting or (even better) a photograph. While sadly I cannot help with reader requests for photos of Qin Shi Huangdi [r. 246-210 BCE], I do love to collect pictures of more recent historical events.
My newest collection here is a photo essay on the Boxer Rebellion in China. This anti-foreigner uprising rocked the Middle Kingdom between 1899 and 1901; the Boxers did not succeed in driving out the foreign devils, but they did make their displeasure clear to the western powers and the Qing Chinese rulers.
